Training

The Philosophy Department offers tutor training to first-time tutors and then active monitoring and mentoring to all tutors. The initial training takes place at the beginning of each semester, around the time that tutor appointments are finalised. During the semester, lecturing staff will meet weekly with tutors, discuss issues, audit tutorials and provide feedback.

The Humanities Faculty also provides an intensive one-day tutor training workshop at the beginning of each semester. This is optional for Philosophy tutors, given the Department’s own training programme, but a number of our tutors have benefited from attending. Prospective new tutors who wish to participate in such a workshop should advise the Department’s Administrative Officer at the time they submit their applications.
