On Thursday 15 August 2013, the team performed a successful electrophysiological ablation in a child with a persistent arrhythmia. This is a first in South Africa and in Africa.
Dr Wilson Osarogiagbon (from Nigeria who is currently training in paediatric pulmonology here) received the best paediatric poster presentation award for his research on pneumonia in children. Dr Dave le Roux received the SATS GSK Respiratory Fellowship for work on the Drakenstein child lung health study and Prof Heather Zar received the best publication award for a publication in Lancet: "Infect Diseases on Xpert for diagnosis of paediatric TB".
Dr Stanley Machoki Mugambi, one of our Karl Storz fellows from Kenya, has won the best research project presentation at the SAPSTA (South African Paediatric Surgery Trainees Association) meeting which took place at Stellenbosch between 6 - 8 September.
